Introduction
Here at Lucid Realms, we firmly believe that the traditional grind-for-WL process is a plague on the NFT community which must be stopped. The reality is that not everyone has the time and energy to grind through menial discord tasks all day in hopes of receiving a chance to mint an NFT. You most likely have better things to do with your time, and we understand that you can still be invested in our future without having to spam discord tasks.
Let’s see how this problem started, and how Lucid Realms is avoiding this.
The Problem
NFT Projects are naturally incentivized to optimize for hype pre-mint. This is quite clear to see, as hype increases the perceived demand for the NFT project and increases the chance that the project will sell out. The problem is, this attracts rent-seekers who are only interested in quick flips and add no value to the community. Most projects have been combatting this by adding barriers to their WL process. You’ve most likely seen this before in the form of random Discord tasks like the Duck Hunt game (?) or the MEE6 leveling challenges.
While these grinding barriers do filter out lazy flippers, there is still nothing preventing dedicated paper-handers from grinding tasks. The worst part is, these tasks are not helping the community in any way and usually result in spam. This process also reduces the quality of the community by preventing legitimate supporters from joining due to time/energy constraints. Furthermore, there are no checks in place to prevent one from obtaining WL spots on multiple accounts.
Our Solution: $cENERGY
$cENERGY (community $ENERGY) is an off-chain variant of our (unreleased) $ENERGY in-game currency used to track contributions to the Lucid Realms community and will be used to determine who will be receiving WL spots. While $cENERGY is stored off-chain, it is tied to your Solana wallet address to make things easier for us when we start WLing people.
Quests
Quests are community-oriented tasks which are accessible through our website here. Upon completion of a quest, you will be awarded $cENERGY proportional to the impact of your community contribution.
These quests will range from lore-writing to fan-art creation. No matter what your skills are or how much time you have, there will be some way for you to contribute to the Lucid Realms ecosystem. The idea is that regular contributors will be rewarded for their efforts, and even WL grinding rent-seekers are performing actions which bolster our community.
Referrals
With traditional Discord referral systems, bad actors can easily create multiple burner accounts in hopes of receiving a WL spot for their supposed “contributions”. With $cENERGY referral quests, each referred person must go through our verification process to be counted as a referral.
Governance
$cENERGY will be used as a governance token for important community decisions, until we launch $ENERGY. You and the community will get to vote on important decisions like $ENERGY token allocations, royalties for upcoming NFT’s or the skills/abilities of Wanderers (Lucid Realms NFT characters).
Conclusion
We hope to combat rent-seeking by doubling down on community-oriented tasks, so that even rent-seekers are enhancing the Lucid Realms ecosystem. By tracking community contributions, we have more data to decide who should be rewarded WL spots and other perks. $cENERGY will also be used for voting on important matter pertaining to the community.
